NEW YORK, NY – August 20, 2024 – The iPhone Photography Awards (IPPAWARDS) is thrilled to announce the winners of its 17th annual competition. This year’s winning images are a powerful testament to the art of storytelling through photography. From a young boy’s awe as he encounters the mysteries of the deep sea in Boy Meets Shark to the energetic and synchronized movement of lifeguards in training at Lifeguard Camp, these photographs capture moments that deeply resonate. Across landscapes, portraits, and abstract compositions, the winning images convey emotions ranging from serenity and wonder to joy and introspection, showcasing the unique ability of iPhone photography to connect us to the world in profound ways.

We are proud to present this year’s Grand Prize Winner, Erin Brooks of the United States, who receives the Photographer of the Year Award for her stunning image, Boy Meets Shark, captured on an iPhone 15 Pro Max. The photo, taken in Tampa, Florida, portrays a young boy standing in awe before a massive shark, symbolizing the innocence of youth juxtaposed with the mysteries of the deep sea.

The First Place Photographer of the Year Award goes to Glen Wilbert of the United States for his dynamic image, Lifeguard Camp, taken at Huntington Beach, California. Shot on an iPhone 11 Pro Max, the image captures the organized chaos and energy of lifeguards in training.

The Second Place prize is awarded to Anthony Maureal of the United States for his serene and contemplative photograph, Pupils, taken at Ta Prohm in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This image, captured on an iPhone 15 Pro, beautifully illustrates the quiet focus of young monks as they meditate in the ancient temple.

Finally, the Third Place Photographer of the Year Award is given to Wenlong Jiang of China for his stunningly beautiful image taken in Fujian, China, with an iPhone 14. The photograph captures the vastness and intricate structure of an indoor space, with a lone figure providing a sense of scale and solitude within the grand environment.

The top-three winners in an additional 14 categories capture a stunning array of emotions and scenes from around the globe. From the intricate and abstract forms in Spain’s Pita Pinta to the powerful connection between a child and nature in Australia’s George Loves Chippies, these images depict the beauty, complexity, and humor present in the world around us. The winning photographs in categories like Architecture, Nature, and Travel convey a deep sense place and wonder, whether it’s the serene landscapes of Japan, the vibrant street life of China, or the awe-inspiring natural scenes in Tanzania. Each photograph tells a unique story—whether it’s the raw beauty of nature, the quiet elegance of architecture, or the vibrant energy of human life—eliciting deep emotions and resonating with viewers worldwide. These winning images are a testament to the power of photography to connect us all, across different cultures and perspectives.
